Alligator Creek Fishing Spot
Alligator Creek Fishing Spot is located in South Townsville and is best visited during the warmer months. It's one of the best fishing spots around, filled with plenty of Barramundi, Dusky flathead, Grunter, Mangrove Jack and Southern Black Bream. Make sure to use brightly coloured lures and soft plastics here, as the water is muddy, so a pop of colour can help catch the fish of your dreams.
Crocodile Creek
This creek can be found south of Alligator creek and is considered a favourite fishing spot for the local people of Townsville. You'll have the opportunity to find deep-water fish here due to the deep bottom, good structure and open flats outside the mouth. Your best bet for reeling in a great catch is by picking the right tide. It's always best to fish the tide when it's coming in or out because that's when fish movement is higher.
As a note, it's called Crocodile creek for a reason, so keep an eye out for our scaly friends!
North Cardinal
North Cardinal is a stunning offshore fishing spot that requires a boat for you to get there. Check the radar before travelling here, as it can get incredibly windy and unpleasant in bad weather. This location offers deep holes with schools of bait fish, especially Scard and Herring. The water here has a depth of 12m at low tide.
Ross River
Ross River is located in the heart of Townsville. If you're looking for Barramundi, Ross River is the right place. The best time to fish for Barra here is during warmer months with crayfish as bait. This river is easily accessible, allowing you to fish either via boat or on land.
Black River
Black River is found to the north of Townsville. It's the perfect spot to find Crabs, Golden Snapper, Grunter, Salmon and, you guessed it, Barramundi. This spot is close to Townsville itself and features sand flats, deep holes and a good structure. It does have a tendency to be busy, but it is easily accessible if you don't have a boat.
